Among the many important points that the different blogs brought up, I found the best to be "using an alias vs. a real identity online" and "Are you contributing to the discussion?". In using an alias, commenters aren't afraid of others being angry with them for posting vulgar remarks on their blogs. Using a real identity, however, can have consequences.
When asking oneself whether or not they're contributing to the conversation, it can create a much better code of conduct for all commenters to follow.
Aliases are a good thing in protecting one from unfair comments. I use an alias, but have also found that for true conversation and community building, people really do want to know who they are talking with...don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI think that is possible when one's blog fits into a pretty specific "community."
If I tried to be a part of a blog community, the thing that I would want to avoid more than anything would be 'vulgar comments'. I just don't have any desire to be a part of that discussion.
